STUMM433 Blog is a constantly-updated resource documenting the contributions that Mute artists of the last forty years, its designers and those affiliated with the enduring record label made to the development of STUMM433, a boxset featuring 58 distinct performances of John Cage’s 4’33”. STUMM433 Blog can be found here.

STUMM433 Blog is a Documentary Evidence project. Documentary Evidence was founded in 2003 by music journalist Mat Smith (Electronic Sound, Clash, Further.) as a fansite focussed on Mute’s enduring and ongoing creative legacy. It was inspired by a copy of the label’s then current catalogue, Documentary Evidence 4, found lurking in a copy of the 12-inch of Erasure‘s ‘Chorus’ purchased from Woolworth’s on a hot summer’s day in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1991.

For more information on the genesis of Documentary Evidence, read The Electricity Club‘s interview with Mat Smith from July 2018.

In 2013, Smith compiled the double MuteResponse tribute compilation, available here.

The STUMM433 box can be ordered at the Mute website. All profits from the sales of the boxes go to three handpicked charities. For more information click on the Charities link above.

An Electronic Sound feature by Mat Smith on the STUMM433 box, featuring interviews with Daniel Miller, Simon Fisher Turner, Pink Grease, Laibach and Irmin Schmidt was featured in issue 53 of the magazine. That feature has been reproduced here with the kind permission of the Electronic Sound editorial team.
